Mediation
Conflict as a generative force
About mediation
Mediation is a facilitated dialogue between two or more people seeking to address a conflict. The mediator does not judge or tell people what they should do. Instead, the ideas and transformation arise from participants themselves, supported by a mediator, and with attention to power dynamics. Mediation is a much shorter-term process than therapy, focused around transforming an interpersonal conflict.
About my experience
My more formal training as a mediator comes from nearly a decade of work combined in community-based organizations such as the Minneapolis Conflict Resolution Center, and Berkeley SEEDS.
I have been impacted by the leadership and legacies of healing justice and transformative justice movements, especially the works of Mariame Kaba, Shira Hassan, Mia Mingus and adrienne maree brown.
Examples of possible conflicts for mediation:
Roommates • Friends • Neighbors
Separations/Break-Ups • Organizations/Workplaces
